Congratulations to Luke Oeppen and his team on winning the FHL UK Cup 2021/22!
With covid protocol playing havoc with the fixture list, we were left with only three games in the gameweek. However to remain fair to all teams we played the cup final as scheduled.
Despite the Latvian Hawks taking an early lead on the Saturday games thanks to first period goals from Robert Dowd and Mathieu Roy, it was Oeppen who were slightly ahead at the end of the day after the scoring changes were applied in the Sheffield/Cardiff game.
As highlighted in our cup final preview it was the Sheffield forwards across both teams who made a big difference to the final score. The Latvian Hawks pair of Robert Dowd and Matias Sointu scored just 10 points, where as Martin Latal and Marc-Olivier Vallerand scored 48 points for Oeppen.
Latvian Hawks trade for Mathieu Roy worked out well after he scored a goal in each game over the weekend but unfortunately only 34 points across the rest of team meant they finish runner-up this season.
Oeppen made a number of transfers planning for the full gameweek, however bringing in Justin Crandall for David Goodwin who didn’t play gave the team an extra 14 points. This along with 24 points for Cole Sanford gave Oeppen one of the better scores for the week.
Again, congratulations to our cup winner Oeppen. The FHL UK Shield will start in 2022.
* Scores are subject to change once the Elite League update the statistics*
