After six weeks of group stage games and six weeks of knockout games we finally have our FHL UK Shield winner. Congratulations to……
No Woman, No Krejci – Lee Hodgkinson
“No Woman, No Krejci” will take home the trophy this year (plus cap and puck) after a strong gameweek put pay to “Oeppen’s” run towards a double this year. As mentioned in our preview below our two finalists had an incredible 12 players in common out of a possible seventeen, so with 59.7 points separating the teams lets take a look who made the difference.
In goal it was basically Mac Carruth against Tyler Beskorowany and surprisingly it was our champion who had a nightmare with just 4.9 points scored with his two goalie’s. “Oeppen” only scored 18.2 points themselves so a poor week for both our challengers meant it was still an open contest.
It was in defensive scoring where the cup was won. With four defenceman in common “No Woman, No Krejci” had Michael Poirier and Jonas Emmerdahl to fight his corner against Kyle Haas and Jake Bolton for “Oeppen”. We thought Jake Bolton has the most potential but that didn’t work as planned for GM Luke Oeppen as he only got 13 points from both players. Poirier and Emmerdahl however both had great weeks and scored 70 points between them.
Up front “No Woman, No Krejci” had David Goodwin and Mathieu Roy, while “Oeppen” had Jake Coughler and Sebastian Bengtsson. Again it was advantage to Lee Hodgkinson’s men who scored 73 points to “Oeppen’s” 57 points. The disappointment for “Oeppen” was Jake Coughler scoring just 10 points, although he did only have one game which was a loss to Sheffield.
MVP for our champions was Jonas Emmerdahl as a powerplay assist and game winning OT goal on Sunday in the win over Glasgow sealed the deal for the FHL UK Shield champions.
