In order to succeed in the FHL UK game you need to be able to trade in those players who are hitting form at the right time, especially those who most other teams don’t already have. Here is who we think is starting to hit form over the last few weeks.
Martin Latal was one of the most valuable players in the game last year but started slowly this year, scoring 46 points over the first four gameweeks. As the Sheffield offence has started to roll Latal is also putting up the points with 145 over the last four gameweeks.
Brett Ferguson has been a consistent performer in the league for a number of years now and when initially put on a line with the Swedish duo of Sam Marklund and Johan Eriksson you thought all three would start to put up good points each week. Ferguson only had 16 points over gameweeks one to three. Since then, however he has 137 points at an average of 27.4 per week. With being moderately priced at 7.5M he would be a good player to bring in if he keeps up that production.
Finally, we have Jackson Whistle who has been making the most of his split time with Peyton Jones in the Belfast goal. A couple of shutouts across the last few gameweeks has increased his average points per week from 9.1 to 28.3. At 5.0M he is extremely good value, although with having limited starts his points production would drop significantly with a few poor performances.
However, with each player who is currently hitting form there are those who aren’t scoring. Here is who we think you should be calling into your GM office and letting them know kindly that their services are no longer required.
First, we need to look at those players who are currently on the injured list as there is no point in having a player in your team who is sat in the stands enjoying a hot dog and a beer. Those on the list at the moment are Oskar Ostlund, who hasn’t played for Sheffield all season, Evan Mosey and Shawn Boutin. At the start of gameweek 8 there were 21 teams who had Mosey in their starting line-up and 11 teams who had Boutin.
There are a number of players who are valued around 4.0M-5.0M and who don’t get a lot of ice time but will pick up points across the season. What you don’t need is a player valued any higher than that who is not producing and/or who has lost form over the last few weeks.
The biggest shock this season has been the lack of production from Luke Ferrara of the Nottingham Panthers, who has gone from leading the league in goals scored a few years ago to not picking up a single point this year so far despite being in the line-up regularly. At 9.0M much more was expected, and 19 teams are still waiting for him to trouble the scorers.
Darik Angeli came into the league having put up better than a point per game in the ECHL last year but has disappointed this season with just three points across the first 8 gameweeks. Belfast have arguably the best first line in the league however not much scoring elsewhere at the moment. Angeli may well come good once he settles in but at the moment is not worth the 9.0M.
Other players whose form has dropped are Jesper Ohrvall (injured with being owned by 68 teams), Ben Bowns (no wins in the last three gameweeks despite being owned by 39 teams) and Phillipe Sanche (injured with being owned by 31 teams).
